Ouagadougou: The Gambaga Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS), part of the Koupela health district, organized, on Tuesday, May 15, 2025, in its premises, a free awareness and screening campaign day, under the chairmanship of the first vice-president of the special delegation of the commune of Koupela, Fran§ois Xavier Nikiema.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event was sponsored by His Majesty Naaba Belemwende of Gambaga, with support from the local community. The campaign featured several activities, including screenings for precancerous lesions of the cervix and breasts, hepatitis B, syphilis, and high blood pressure, along with promoting infant and young child nutrition.
Diassanou Dayamba, head nurse of the Gambaga CSPS, emphasized the campaign's goal to raise awareness about the importance of prevention and encourage health-promoting behaviors. He noted the lack of awareness among the population regarding simple preventive measures for common diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes.
The free screenings and information sessions were highlighted as an opportunity to bring health services closer to the community and strengthen the relationship between health professionals and the public. His Majesty Naaba Belemwende expressed satisfaction with the event and praised the health workers for their dedication.
Fran§ois Xavier Nikiema, representing the PDS, suggested that similar activities could be held regularly in multiple centers to inform more people about diseases. He stressed the importance of awareness sessions preceding screenings to facilitate early disease detection and management.
The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote community health, focusing on prevention and local information dissemination. It is considered a valuable effort that should be expanded to other areas for improved access to preventive care.
