Gaoua: A show to promote and promote yams and tubers

The first edition of the Yam and Tuber Show (SALIT) was held from October 26 to 28, 2023 in Gaoua, capital of the South-West region, on the theme “What strategies for better support of the tuber sector in a context of food and security insecurity? ".

The South-West region, recognized as an area par excellence for the production of varieties of yam and tubers, should help to boost the local economy and generate foreign exchange for the benefit of the various players in the sector.

However, the sector faces enormous difficulties in its development. This concerns the lack of a framework of expression for the actors, of valorization and sale of their products.

It is with this observation that the first edition of the Yam and Tuber Show (SALIT) was held from October 26 to 28, 2023 on the Place de la Nation in Gaoua, capital of the Southern region. -West, under the theme “What strategies for better support of the tuber sector in a context of food and security insecurity?” ".

Initiated by the regional consular delegation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, this showcase is a forum for valorizing and promoting local cultural potential.

During the opening of the SALIT, the secretary general of the region, Robert Zoungrana, representing the governor of the South-West, stressed that the organization of the Yam and Tuber Show is a great initiative insofar as it will restore vitality to this sector which brings together a large number of players in the South-West agricultural sector.

Furthermore, he invited investors and economic operators to direct their actions towards the transformation of products, which will guarantee the confidence of producers for the sale of their production.

The SALIT launch ceremony was marked by a visit to the different varieties of tubers, derived products and accompaniments to these tubers.
