The Director General of Plant Protection, Prosper Zemba, met on Wednesday March 6, 2024 in Fada N'Gourma, with media men during a press briefing, to convey the message to them of the Minister in charge of Agriculture, on the diversion of subsidized fertilizers in Fada N'Gourma.The Director General of Plant Protection, Prosper Zemba, took the opportunity after a press briefing, on Wednesday March 6, 2024 in Fada N'Gourma, to convey the message from the Minister in charge of Agriculture on the diversion of subsidized fertilizers in Fada N 'Gurma.Thus in this message, he noted that the Burkinabè government injects several billion CFA francs for the purchase of agricultural inputs and equipment which it makes available to producers at subsidized prices.'Unfortunately, the distribution mechanism for these products is experiencing enormous difficulties because it does not promote good governance based on management transparency,' underlined Prosper Zemba.The director general declared that to clean up this d istribution mechanism, the minister in charge of agriculture gave instructions upon his arrival at the head of the ministry.Also, he added, these measures aim to increase agricultural production.He affirmed that this year their ministry, with the agro-pastoral offensive, plans to make significant quantities of fertilizer available to producers.Zemba suggested that to compensate for possible practices that could compromise this state agricultural policy, the ministry in charge of Agriculture set up a monitoring system and a toll-free number, which made it possible to collect a certain number of information.'This information collected which allowed the judicial authorities to get their hands on the alleged culprits in the case of the diversion of subsidized fertilizers which is the subject of this press briefing this morning,' he said.The Director General of Plant Protection continued that this diversion of subsidized fertilizers is a very serious breach because it does not promote the achievement of the objectives of agricultural policy.According to him, the minister calls for the responsibility of all fertilizer distribution networks and all producers.Zemba invited them to abandon any manipulation action for fertilizer diversion because he is committed to the 'zero tolerance of fertilizer diversion' campaign starting this year.Source: Burkina Information Agency
