Goulmou: The High Commissioner of the Gourma province, Silas Nacanabo, called on the official bodies of the Goulmou region to prioritize the consumption of local products during a ceremony for the raising of the national colors on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event saw the participation of representatives from various regional institutions, staff from the National Telecommunications Office (ONATEL), students from the Goulmou Regional Institute of Administration, traditional leaders, and members of the Defense and Security Forces. Boureima Ouedraogo, ONATEL's regional director for Goulmou, expressed gratitude to the authorities for selecting his institution to host the ceremony, noting its symbolic significance.
Ouedraogo emphasized that the flag-raising event embodies the values of patriotism and citizenship that every Burkinab¨ should uphold. He affirmed ONATEL's commitment to supporting the authorities in this initiative as the telecommunications arm, while also addressing the security challenges in the region. He noted that ONATEL's Eastern regional office serves both the Goulmou and Nakambe regions, with operations extending from Mogtedo to Cinkanse. Ouedraogo also acknowledged the cooperation of administrative and customary authorities and security forces in establishing telecommunications infrastructure for public benefit.
During the event, Silas Nacanabo conveyed a message from the President of Burkina Faso, urging citizens to adopt consumption habits that favor local products. He stressed the importance of valuing local production and supporting farmers, artisans, and livestock breeders. Nacanabo described this shift in consumption as an act of patriotism and a critical factor in the economic development of Burkina Faso.
The ceremony concluded with an appeal to all attendees to integrate local consumption and civic engagement into their everyday lives.
