Ouahigouya: On the occasion of the eighth edition of the National Tree Day (JNA), the governor of the Yaadga region, Thomas Yampa, gave the starting signal on Saturday at his residence, AIB observed. After planting his tree, Governor Thomas Yampa invited the population of the Yaadga region to fully invest in reforestation and to make the national theme “my concession, my tree” a reality, with the aim of greening northern Burkina Faso.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the regional authority emphasized the importance of planting and protecting trees as a strategy to combat desertification and support the national policy of environmental preservation and the achievement of food security. The governor’s appeal was well received by the traditional and religious leaders of the region, who also participated by planting various species of trees in the courtyard of the Ypalla school in sector 2 of Ouahigouya to protect the environment.
The spokesperson for the customary leaders, Weranga Naba Saaga II, who is also a minister to the king of Yatenga, expressed that the tree-planting initiative is a response to the call from the authorities regarding the fight against drought and desertification. He emphasized that all citizens should show their patriotism by participating in the planting of five million trees. “Since the tree represents life, everyone must plant their own tree and take good care of it so that it benefits not only themselves but also future generations,” he highlighted.
