Ouagadougou: Members of the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC), Houet section, in collaboration with the mission officer at the Presidency of Faso for the Guiriko region, Omar Traor, conducted an awareness and sanitation campaign against malaria and dengue on Saturday in sector 15 of Bobo-Dioulasso. The activity focused on educating residents about the importance of maintaining clean surroundings and collecting used containers that could serve as breeding grounds for mosquito larvae.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the CNAVC, Houet branch, Ousmane Kindo, expressed satisfaction with the mobilization of volunteers involved in the operation. He praised the volunteers for their patriotism and commitment to Burkina Faso, highlighting their prompt response to concerns about garbage dumps serving as disease breeding grounds. The volunteers engaged with residents, promoting good hygiene and sanitation practices.

Regional health director, Issa Konat, stressed the importance of collecting used containers to prevent vector-borne diseases. He observed people raising awareness and collecting unused items, which serve as mosquito breeding grounds in households, and noted that these items were loaded onto tricycles for disposal.

The regional director emphasized that the operation is crucial for reducing mosquito breeding grounds, vectors of malaria and dengue fever. He urged for the initiative to be sustained with greater community involvement, stressing the government's appeal for continued activity and community understanding that simple actions can significantly impact the fight against malaria.

Bonaventure Oudraogo, a resident of sector 15, shared his experience, noting the increased awareness the operation brought to his household. He acknowledged the presence of open containers and other items that were potential breeding grounds for larvae and expressed gratitude for the awareness campaign.

This awareness and sanitation operation aims to bolster community mobilization against vector-borne diseases, particularly as the winter period, favorable for mosquito proliferation, approaches.
