Gogo: The High Commissioner of the province of Tuy, Issiaka Segda, has called on the public and organized bodies to uphold secularism, religious tolerance, and social cohesion, essential for peace and stability in Burkina Faso. This appeal was made during the monthly national colors raising ceremony at the Hound© town hall.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Segda emphasized that the Burkinabe Constitution supports the secular nature of the State while allowing each citizen the freedom to practice their religion in accordance with the Republic's laws and communal values. He clarified that secularism is not about rejecting religions or opposing beliefs but requires the State and its administration to maintain neutrality and impartiality in public service.
Burkina Faso, known for its tolerance, has been home to Muslims, Christians, and traditional religion followers coexisting in mutual respect and solidarity. The High Commissioner urged traditional, religious, and community leaders to persist in their educational, mediational, and peace-promoting efforts.
He further appealed to the Defense and Security Forces, public administration, community leaders, and citizens to contribute to preserving social cohesion and to avoid spreading hate or divisive messages on social media. Amid the national territory's reconquest and the nation's rebuilding, Mr. Segda encouraged unity around sovereignty, dignity, and endogenous development ideals.
The High Commissioner expressed gratitude to the municipality of Hound© for hosting the ceremony and honored the Defense and Security Forces and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland for their sacrifices in protecting the population and defending the national territory's integrity.
Souleymane Dianda, president of the special delegation of the municipality of Hound©, discussed the achievements, challenges, and future goals of his institution aimed at improving local public services' quality and enhancing the municipal administration's capabilities.
The Provincial Directorate of the National Police in Tuy is set to host the next monthly national colors raising ceremony on July 6, 2026.
