Zondoma: On the sidelines of the day of customs and traditions, the Gourcy hiking club initiated a mini marathon of sporting walking through the town of Gourcy on Friday, May 15, 2026. The sister clubs of Ouahigouya and Yako took part in this walk carried out on a 6-kilometer circuit.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the starting signal was given at 6 a.m. in front of the royal court of Gourcy, in the presence of administrative and traditional authorities. On a six-kilometer closed circuit, the hikers walked along National Route 2 towards Ouagadougou before returning to the starting point for aerobic exercises. Hikers from the towns of Ouahigouya and Yako joined the group, responding enthusiastically to the call from their counterparts in Gourcy.
Lassan© Zida, president of the Yako hiking club, who came at the head of a delegation of 22 members, expressed his satisfaction and highlighted the unity among the three clubs in the region. Idrissa Nacanabo, president of the Ouahigouya hiking club, while expressing his pride in participating in this inaugural walk, hoped that the initiative aimed at promoting health will continue for the benefit of the population.
Tido Sogoba, president of the Gourcy hikers, remarked on the successful day and emphasized the importance of such activities for all ages, encouraging the population to engage in this sport to maintain health and prevent diseases. After the sporting activities, the hikers took a guided tour of the royal palace and the Naaba Baongo grove, key tourist sites for the local population.
Before concluding the event, participants received congratulations from His Majesty Naaba Baongo and the President of the Special Delegation of Gourcy, Bosso To© Kaba T©r©, for their contribution to the celebration. Having been in existence for three years, the Gourcy hiking club now boasts more than 130 members and continues to engage in social initiatives.
