K©n©dougou: A hippopotamus was found dead by Bozo fishermen on Monday, February 23, 2026, behind the main dike of the Banzon rice plain, in a pond located not far from the lobster pots. According to the departmental Water and Forestry service, the information was brought to the forestry agents by local residents, around 1 p.m.
Forestry officer Nanema Mathieu said he immediately informed his station chief, Oumarou Zoungrana, before going to the scene to make the assessment. Following the checks, it was determined that the animal was a young female, approximately 3.20 meters long. No external injuries were observed. However, bleeding was observed at the nostrils.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the forest ranger indicated that the hippopotamus succumbed to an internal head injury, probably resulting from a confrontation within the group.
