Houet: From April 14 to 16, 2026, a joint mission named 'Operation Anthill' unfolded in the Dind©resso classified forest, within Houet province. This operation was part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in forest regions and to bolster security against persistent terrorist threats.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the mission brought together a coalition force consisting of the Water and Forestry Combat Unit (UCEF) of Samendeni, the National Police, the Departmental Water and Forestry Service (SDEF) of Bobo-Dioulasso, and the Regional Water and Forestry Brigade of Guiriko. The collaboration yielded substantial results, marking a significant step in safeguarding the forest area.
The operation culminated in the arrest of 34 individuals, with 27 of them subsequently transferred to the National Police for further legal proceedings. In the course of the crackdown, the teams confiscated 18 motorcycles, 7 tricycles, and a truck. Additionally, authorities seized drugs, shisha products, charcoal, and green wood during their inspections, highlighting the breadth of illegal activities being addressed.
A notable aspect of the operation was the interception of over 140 head of cattle, which were either impounded or redirected away from the classified forest, aiming to protect the natural environment from further degradation. The mission also resulted in the dismantling of numerous illicit enterprises operating within the protected area.
Parallel to enforcement actions, awareness campaigns were conducted to inform illegal occupants about the importance of preserving the forest. These individuals were advised to vacate the premises within a week, emphasizing the authorities' commitment to maintaining the integrity of the forest.
According to authorities from the Guiriko Regional Directorate of Water and Forests, this mission is a crucial step towards ensuring the long-term security of the Dind©resso classified forest. They confirmed that further operations are planned to reinforce the achievements of this initiative, underscoring the ongoing dedication to forest conservation and security.
