Households in Koosin Embrace New Malaria Prevention Practices After Awareness Campaign

Koosin: The recent malaria awareness campaign conducted for the benefit of the population has led to a positive change in behavior within households, thus contributing to strengthening the fight against this endemic disease. Observations in the field indicate that households are now regularly using long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets, particularly for children under five and pregnant women.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this observed change in behavior demonstrates the positive impact of awareness campaigns and the community's commitment to reducing malaria cases in the area. The concessions are also better maintained, with the elimination of stagnant water, weeding around the dwellings, and the cleaning of public spaces.

Furthermore, populations have adopted the reflex of early recourse to health centers in case of fever or suspicious symptoms, thus reducing self-medication practices. Treatments prescribed by health workers are better respected, promoting effective management of malaria.

Awareness-raising has also helped to strengthen the protection of vulnerable people, particularly pregnant women who are attending more prenatal consultations and respecting the intermittent preventive treatment. Prevention messages are also relayed within families and in the neighborhood, reflecting a community-based appropriation of the fight against malaria.
