Ouagadougou: The inhabitants of N'golona plead for their village to be connected to the electricity grid. The inhabitants of N'golona, a village in the department of Douna, in the province of Lraba, launched an appeal on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, to the highest authorities in order to obtain the connection of their locality to the national electricity network, believing that they have been left out while the surrounding villages are already electrified. Led by village chief John Son, the population asserts that access to electricity is a necessity both for strengthening security and for the socio-economic development of the locality.
According to Burkina Information Agency, N'golona, located in the far west of the Douna department near Sindou, is crossed by two high-voltage power lines. One of the lines runs alongside the paved regional road 21 linking Douna to Sindou, and the other serves several neighboring villages, including Konadougou. Despite its proximity to electrical infrastructure, the village remains unconnected to the grid.
The President of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Douna, Abdoul Aziz Karambiri, noted that N'golona is part of the developed plain of Douna and actively contributes to agricultural production and food security. The village chief indicates that several approaches have been made to the municipal authorities and to SONABEL, notably in 2009, 2010, and 2025, without result to date. 'We don't know which way to turn anymore. We hope that our appeal through the AIB will make our distress heard by decision-makers,' said John Son.
For the residents, electrification of the village would help improve security by reducing livestock and property thefts while also facilitating surveillance activities. Issa Hi, a son of the village, also believes that access to electricity would promote the academic success of students and the development of economic activities through shops, stores, mills, and other small businesses.
The village has educational infrastructure including a six-classroom primary school, a general education college (CEG), a vocational and technical training centre which is expected to open, as well as a rice sorting unit which is being installed. The PDS of Douna confirmed that it had been contacted by a delegation from the Village Development Council (CVD) and representatives of women on this issue. 'We are counting on SONABEL's support to resolve this situation as quickly as possible. The need is real and urgent. It is important that all villages affected by the electrification projects can effectively benefit from them,' said Abdoul Aziz Karambiri.
The people of N'golona say they hope to see their village finally connected to the electricity grid, like neighboring localities.
