Intrepid Fighter Armel Zombre Promoted to Sergeant in Burkinabe Army

Burkina faso: In the midst of several fierce battles in inaccessible areas, Wend-Kouni Armel Zombre, the nightmare of terrorists, was exceptionally distinguished as a sergeant in the Burkinabe Army by the military hierarchy for his courage and determination.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Sergeant Wend-Kouni Armel Zombre joined the National Armed Forces in 2014, driven by a deep desire to serve his country. After his initial training, he was assigned to the Central Army Group (GCA), before joining the 11th Commando Infantry Regiment in 2019, where he forged his courage, discipline, and sense of duty.

Later, he was among the first elements chosen to form COBRA Unit 1, a unit engaged in the heart of the toughest battles in the most inaccessible areas.

On January 1, 2022, while carrying out a perilous mission in Gomboro, COBRA 1 came under violent terrorist attack. Faced with adversity, the soldiers refused to surrender. After long hours of fighting, they managed to regain the upper hand over the enemy.

In the midst of this battle, Sergeant Zombre distinguished himself with an act of exceptional courage. Stationed in his foxhole, he chose to brave the danger. In a surge of determination, he moved forward, exposing himself to enemy fire, and engaged a group of terrorists attempting to outflank friendly positions.

Armed with his PKMS machine gun, he held firm, repelled the assault, and routed the enemy by neutralizing a large number of terrorists. His actions directly contributed to saving his comrades and turning the tide of the battle.

His courage, composure, and sense of sacrifice did not go unnoticed. He received a letter of commendation and was then awarded the Combatant's Cross in 2023, in recognition of his exemplary commitment.

Today, he is exceptionally promoted to the rank of Sergeant, a reward that recognizes a career marked by bravery, loyalty, and love of the Nation.
