Ouagadougou: The agricultural Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) of the commune of Oronkua took stock of the past agricultural campaign and launched the 2026 campaign on Wednesday, during a meeting chaired by the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Victor Kiswend Dondyr. The meeting brought together the delegate of the agricultural VDP, Som Koumbamouro, producers, as well as representatives of the National Bureau of Major Projects.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative is part of the vision of the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traor, aimed at promoting agricultural production and strengthening food sovereignty. The meeting allowed for a review of the achievements and difficulties of the previous campaign. The report presented highlighted that the agricultural VDPs cultivated a 10-hectare site located in Zintio, provided by the president of the Village Development Council (CVD), Som Pierre. The campaign resulted in a production of 1,348 kg of cowpeas, 1,253 kg of sesame, and 22 kg of okra.

However, the agricultural VDPs identified several constraints, including the late start of activities, the unsuitability of certain sites for specific crops, and delays in phytosanitary treatments due to insufficient financial resources. To enhance the performance of the current campaign, they recommended the creation of a cooperative of agricultural VDPs, strengthening collaboration with agricultural technical services, and providing better support for administrative and customary authorities.

For the 2026 campaign, the agricultural VDPs received support comprising 100 kg of peanut seeds, 120 kg of cowpea seeds, 150 kg of hybrid maize seeds, 1 kg of okra seeds, two tarpaulins, a seeder, and two sprayers, one of which is electric. The PDS commended the commitment of young producers and urged them to continue their efforts to contribute to achieving food sovereignty, while expressing gratitude to technical and financial partners for their support.
