Hanoi: The Lopaal football team won the final of the Memer fraternity cup on Friday, August 14, 2026, initiated by the Memer Youth Tiertaa Association (ATJM), defeating Toulpouo 2-0.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the competition brought together 9 teams around the values ??of social cohesion and community. The two finalist teams played a hard-fought match in the rain, in front of a crowd that remained engaged until the final whistle.
The Lopaal football team opened the scoring in the 29th minute and maintained their lead until halftime. After the break, Toulpouo tried to equalize, but Lopaal doubled their advantage, sealing a 2-0 victory.
The winning team left with the trophy, a set of jerseys, a ball, an envelope containing 100,000 CFA francs and gold medals. The runner-up, Toulpouo, received 80,000 CFA francs, a set of jerseys, a ball, and silver medals. Zoner, who finished third, received 35,000 CFA francs, while Mougnoupl, who came in fourth, took home 25,000 CFA francs.
Before the kick-off, ATJM members planted trees on the grounds of the General Education College (CEG) and the Lopaal school. According to the president of ATJM, Evariste Meda, the competition aims to strengthen social cohesion and community spirit among young people from the different villages in the Memer area. "The primary objective of this competition is to promote social cohesion. It is an opportunity for us to raise awareness among the population and foster a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility," he stated.
He congratulated the participating teams, organizers and sponsors, before indicating that the association had also carried out cultural activities the day before and donated ten bags of cement to Faso Mªbo in the commune of Koper. Co-sponsor Lassina Sirima praised the initiative, believing that sport is "a powerful means of cultivating forgiveness, patriotism and civic-mindedness".
The ceremony's sponsor, Chief N'Golo Ouattara of Memer village, urged the players to demonstrate wisdom and fair play. He also called for strengthening the joking relationship between the people of Dj´r´ and those of Cascades. To this end, he brought "bandji" (a local spice blend) and invited the Dagara people to abandon "dolo" (a local spice blend).
Alongside the competition, the provincial department of the Ministry in charge of Family Affairs raised awareness among participants about the harmful effects of gold panning in the Ioba province. According to the data provided, 126 children, including 35 boys and 91 girls, were recorded as having migrated to gold mining sites during the school year. The representative of the National Road Safety Office (ONASER), Antony Somda, for his part, raised awareness among the population about wearing helmets, speed limits and respecting the highway code. Launched on June 27, 2026, this edition of the ATJM Fraternity Cup is part of the dynamic of promoting sport and culture as factors of social cohesion and bringing together the daughters and sons of Memer.
