Banwa: January 1st marked by patriotism, solidarity and hope
While the New Year usually rhymes with rejoicing, the young people of the Hamdalaye district opted, on Thursday, for strong civic actions in service of their community, combining respect for elders, urban security and social cohesion. From the early hours of the morning, the young people began the day by going around to extend New Year's greetings to the elderly residents of the neighborhood. Through these visits, they wanted to express their gratitude and their commitment to the values of intergenerational solidarity.
According to Burkina Information Agency, several elders noted that this gesture revived and strengthened social ties within the neighborhood. Following this, the young people of Hamdalaye installed solar streetlights in certain areas considered high-risk. This initiative, made possible thanks to the support of El Hadj Abdoul Razack Sandwidi, CEO of Hitartex, aims to improve public lighting and contribute to crime prevention. 'Light is security. By supporting these young people, we are investing in social peace and living together,' said Mr. Sandwidi, praising the responsible commitment of the youth.
The organizers indicated that the choice of intervention areas was not accidental. According to them, public lighting will help reduce nighttime crime and reassure the population. 'We wanted to take a useful and lasting action. Fighting insecurity also involves simple and effective solutions like lighting,' they explained.
The day ended with a community meal, a symbol of unity and fraternity, during which participants exchanged wishes for health, peace, and success in the new year. Speaking on behalf of the young people, their representative, Abdou Moumini Ouedraogo, emphasized that these actions are part of the national movement to promote patriotism and active citizenship. He also encouraged young people from other neighborhoods to become more involved in local development. "Youth is not a problem, it is a solution. Together, we can transform our neighborhoods and our country," he stated.
