Ouagadougou: As part of its strategy to bolster industrial sovereignty, alleviate persistent cement shortages, and curb price manipulation, the Burkinabe State has designated a 33-hectare site in Zibzohogo, sector 2 of Koubri, for the establishment of a new cement plant named “CIM-SAHEL”.

According to Burkina Information Agency, an information meeting was conducted in the meeting room of the new Koubri town hall to update stakeholders on the project’s progress. The gathering included municipal authorities such as the President of the Special Delegation (PDS) of Koubri, Comrade Samad© L©onard Gougou, and the First Vice-President, Comrade Sibiri Compaor©, among others. A delegation from the Ministry of National Construction, led by the Regional Director of Kadiogo, Comrade Harouna Ou©draogo, also attended, alongside traditional chiefs and concerned landowners.

The PDS opened the proceedings, emphasizing the meeting’s significance regarding the establishment of the CIM-SAHEL cement plant on the allocated land. Discussions highlighted the necessity to identify involved landowners and the land areas held by each, with compensation offered in kind, providing three plots for every hectare ceded.

Comrade Harouna Ou©draogo stressed the urgency of beginning the work soon and urged landowners and the community to cooperate and support the project’s timely execution. Participants raised concerns about project communication, consideration of existing structures, and relocation plans for affected individuals. Project officials addressed these issues, reassuring attendees of the measures being undertaken.

The Zibzohogo Naaba, speaking on behalf of the customary authorities, expressed gratitude and support for the project, acknowledging the efforts of Captain Ibrahim Traor© and his government in the country’s development. The meeting ended on a positive note, with the next steps involving land identification and demarcation in preparation for the work commencement.
