Nouna:Koosin Kanu T©lima FC emerged victorious in the 4th edition of the Maracana Resilience tournament held on Saturday in Nouna by defeating Athletico FC on penalties (2-1) after a goalless draw at the end of regulation time.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the final took place under the leadership of the High Commissioner of the province of Kossi, Noufo Demb©l©, represented by Souleymane Tiono, the President of the special delegation of the commune of Nouna, with the patronage of the Minister in charge of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traor©.
After two 25-minute periods without any goals, the match was decided by penalties. With both teams tied at 1-1 after the first three attempts, Kanu T©lima FC succeeded in converting their shot in the second round while Athletico FC missed, securing the victory for Kanu T©lima FC.
The champions received a trophy, a ball, a set of jerseys, and a prize of 75,000 CFA francs. The runner-up, Athletico FC, was awarded a set of jerseys, a ball, and 51,000 CFA francs. High Commission FC, which finished third, received a ball and 20,000 CFA francs, while Wayyiyan FC, in fourth place, took home a ball and 15,000 CFA francs.
This edition of the tournament featured 24 teams divided into five groups, with matches characterized by a spirit of resilience and determination. Individual awards were also given out during the final, recognizing the best goalkeeper, best player, and top scorer.
Organizers highlighted that the tournament reached the final without external funding, emphasizing the resilience demonstrated throughout the competition. Issa Dama, the competition's promoter, acknowledged the ongoing support from the community and expressed his hopes for continued backing to ensure the tournament's growth and success.
