Abuja: Residents of the commune of Banzon, led by the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC) communal, pleaded on Thursday, July 23, 2026, with the president of the Special Delegation (PDS), SiPoda, for the restoration of electricity, which has been interrupted for several days in the locality. The demonstration took place in front of the town hall, where the protesters voiced their demands for a solution to the ongoing power outage issues.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the spokesperson for the protesters and municipal official of the CNAVC, Issa Gan©m©, highlighted the challenges faced by the population due to repeated power cuts, which have been occurring for several weeks, typically starting at 8 p.m. Gan©m© noted that the situation has significantly worsened, culminating in a complete blackout since Monday, July 20, 2026.

On behalf of the demonstrators, Comrade Gan©mdemanded the immediate restoration of electricity services to the municipality. He also called for a comprehensive review of the electricity service management, urging for prompt measures to alleviate the difficulties experienced by the residents.

The residents of Banzon assert that the ongoing power issues are seriously impacting economic activities, food preservation, and general household living conditions. They are seeking urgent intervention to restore normalcy in their daily lives.

In response, the president of the Special Delegation of Banzon acknowledged the peaceful nature of the protest and assured the residents that their concerns would be communicated to the relevant authorities to expedite a resolution.

According to multiple sources, the root of the current problems is linked to management issues with the electrical grid operated by the Banzon Electricity Cooperative (COPEL), a private entity in charge of electricity distribution in the area. Efforts to reach the owner of the project for comments were unsuccessful, as they were reportedly out of town.
