Koup©la: The Kourittenga Senior Citizens Association kicked off its annual 48-hour event celebrating senior citizens in Koup©la. The theme of the event, ‘Senior Citizens: An Inexhaustible Source of Peace and Harmonious Living Together,’ was highlighted by the presence of Moctar Ilboudo, the High Commissioner of Kourittenga Province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the event attracted a diverse gathering, including constituted bodies, elderly individuals, young people, and various guests who came to honor the elders. Moumouni Sagnon, President of the special delegation of the commune of Koup©la, expressed his satisfaction at seeing multiple generations united by a common goal of peace and social cohesion.

A key feature of the event was a conference on the values of the elderly, led by Father Joseph Guiatin. He emphasized the role of elders in transmitting peace, respect, and solidarity. Hilaire Zougmor©, the provincial president of the Association of the Elderly, praised the commitment of participants to promoting the rights and dignity of the elderly, likening the care of elders to planting a tree for future benefit.

Moctar Ilboudo highlighted the opportunity to share the wisdom and values of elders with younger generations, advocating for unity and social cohesion as means to overcome threats to peace. He called for the promotion of brotherhood to preserve social harmony.

The event aimed to raise awareness about the contributions of older people to building a peaceful and prosperous society. The celebration will continue with activities emphasizing the role of elders in Kourittenga’s development.
