The Provincial Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Council (COPROSUR) of Kourittenga held, on Thursday July 4, 2024 in Koupéla, its first ordinary session of the year 2024. It was under the presidency of the high commissioner of the province of Kourittenga, Aïssata Angelina Traoré.The session organized on Thursday July 4, 2024 in Koupéla, was an opportunity to take stock of the activities carried out by the Provincial Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation Council (COPROSUR) and its branches over the past year ( 2023), as well as presenting the outlook for 2024.Particular emphasis was placed on the situation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable host people, then on the actions carried out in their favor.The provincial director in charge of Kourittenga Humanitarian Action, Oboulbiga Layani Sylvie/Tankoano, indicated that as of March 31, 2023, the province recorded 41,659 IDPs.'Thanks to the support of partners and certain specific benefactors, assistance actions were carried out, includin g the distribution of food, seeds, bicycles, solar lamps and dignity kits for school children,' explained Ms. Tankoano.She also highlighted the efforts made by the provincial directorate of Social Action to help vulnerable populations, in particular through the distribution of food to IDPs and people weakened by the crisis.The provincial director in charge of Kourittenga Humanitarian Action welcomed the contribution of NGOs, which made it possible to extend COPROSUR's action.The NGO Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH), technical and financial partner of COPROSUR, presented its actions carried out in the Kourittenga province from January 2024 to date.These actions, which fall within the framework of emergency and development, concern in particular food security, access to water, hygiene and sanitation, risk and disaster management.The Regional Coordinator of the NGO WHH, Sébastien Moyenga, stressed the importance of collaboration between all stakeholders to face the humanitarian challenges in the province.He n otably mentioned the distribution of kitchen kits to affected populations, support for schools to strengthen their food distribution capacity, the drilling of boreholes to improve access to drinking water, the development of market gardening sites. and support for municipalities in the development of contingency plans.The High Commissioner of the Kourittenga province, Aïssata Angelina Traoré, president of COPROSUR of Kourittenga, thanked the technical and financial partners for their contributions to the development of the province.She also invited the population to become actively involved in flood prevention efforts and to be ready to respond to requisitions if necessary.At the end of the session, recommendations were made, including the creation of a working group to better coordinate actions on the ground.Source: Burkina Information Agency
