Kourw©ogo: The Muslim community of the commune of Niou, in the Kourw©ogo province, celebrated the Mouloud festival on Thursday, August 27, 2026, commemorating the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The celebration was dedicated to reflecting on the teachings of the Prophet of Islam, particularly tolerance, peace, solidarity, and social cohesion.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration of Mouloud was organized at the home of the religious guide of the Islamic community of the Tidjania of Niou, Cheick Ousmane Ou©draogo. It brought together administrative and customary authorities as well as many faithful from several regions of Burkina Faso, but also from Ghana and Ivory Coast.
This 32nd edition, held during the day, was placed under the sign of meditation on the teachings of the Prophet of Islam, in particular tolerance, peace, solidarity, and social cohesion. For Sheikh Ousmane Ou©draogo, the celebration of Mouloud is a solemn occasion to pay homage to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and to recall his life as a model of spiritual and moral conduct for Muslims.
According to him, it also constitutes a time devoted to invocations, prayers, and blessings. During the celebration, the various preachers who took turns at the podium particularly emphasized social cohesion, through respect for differences of faith, solidarity, forgiveness, and tolerance.
They also discussed the importance of harmony within homes to promote a good education for children and offered advice to young people. The participants also prayed for the return of peace to Burkina Faso and for the protection of the defense and security forces engaged in the fight to recapture the national territory.
Drawing on examples from the life of the Prophet and everyday life, Sheikh Ousmane Ou©draogo stressed the duty of compassion towards the poor, widows, and orphans. He also emphasized the importance of courtesy and kindness towards one's neighbor.
The religious leader urged young people to respect their parents and elders, whose blessings are essential in the pursuit of social and material success. Cheick Ousmane Ou©draogo also invited young people to dedicate themselves to the pursuit of knowledge, a step which, according to him, requires patience, courage, and sacrifices in order to acquire the knowledge and skills that will make them responsible adults, useful to themselves and to the community.
In their working lives, he called on them to demonstrate loyalty, honesty, wisdom, and above all, humility in their dealings with others, in accordance with the teachings of Islam. Among the delegations from abroad was El Hadj Inoussa Zongo, who arrived from Tabou, in the Republic of Ivory Coast.
El Hadj Zongo, who has been participating in the Mouloud of Niou for about twenty years, indicated that this loyalty has allowed him to receive many blessings, the benefits of which in his life are, according to him, "innumerable." Approaching his 80th birthday, the devout Ivorian said he was satisfied with his stay in Niou and expressed his gratitude to Sheikh Ousmane Ou©draogo for his hospitality.
