Leo Central Police Station Launches Road Safety and Drug Prevention Campaign at Municipal High School

Leo:The Leo Central Police Station organized a campaign to raise awareness about road safety and drug prevention at the city's municipal high school on Thursday evening, October 29, 2026. This initiative was aimed at educating students on responsible behavior to curb risky activities both in school and public settings.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the campaign began with the high school headmaster welcoming the police team and highlighting the importance of the discussions amidst rising incidents of accidents and substance abuse among the youth. The headmaster urged students to pay close attention to become "prevention ambassadors" for their peers.

Sawadogo Idrissa, the central police commissioner of Leo, emphasized the police's dedication to youth protection through two critical communications. Lieutenant Traoré delivered the first presentation, focusing on sixth-grade students, about the importance of adhering to the Highway Code, being cautious, and the necessity of wearing motorcycle helmets. The aim was to develop safety habits early in life.

The second presentation focused on the dangers of drugs and alcohol, targeting upper secondary school students. The chief of police highlighted the harmful effects of these substances on health, education, and social life, calling for a collective approach to prevention. He encouraged parents to maintain open dialogues and urged students to report any troubling situations. He stressed the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, educators, families, and students in tackling these issues.

Students expressed their appreciation for the initiative. Sixth-grader Bastien Melkadia reaffirmed the need for helmet use and road caution, while tenth-grader Oumou committed to spreading the prevention messages, recognizing the destructive impact of drugs on health and family life. She promised to inform her classmates to deter them from engaging with these substances.

This collaborative effort reflects the partnership between security services and educational institutions to foster a secure and civic-minded learning environment.
