Loroum/Gender-based violence and other abuses: An association raises awareness among 250 HIMO actors

The Association Monde Rural (AMR) organized on September 11 and 12, 2024 in Titao, an awareness-raising workshop for beneficiaries of the High Intensity of Labor (HIMO) operation, on the risks related to gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse and sexual harassment and to assess their training needs on income-generating activities.There are 250 men and women beneficiaries of the High Intensity of Labor (HIMO) operation, selected by the Titao town hall, to take part in this training workshop organized by the Association Monde Rurale on September 11 and 12, 2024 in Titao.The objective of this training workshop is to raise awareness among HIMO brigadiers in the commune of Titao on the risks of gender-based violence, exploitation and other sexual abuse and sexual harassment.The workshop also aims to raise awareness among stakeholders on the PCRSS project's Complaint Management Mechanisms (MGP) and assess their training needs in AGR."We were told what we can do and what we should not do. The brigadiers were organized into working groups. Each group has a leader and this allows everyone to know their rights and duties," said Clarisse Tao, a HIMO beneficiary.Taking the same trumpet, Sayouba Konfé, a HIMO brigadier, insisted on the link between these activities and social cohesion."This training contributes to the promotion of peace and social cohesion in the sense that if we follow the principles of HIMO intervention, we will never be in conflict," he said. According to him, to take advantage of this work to abuse someone else's wife or undermine her dignity."We should not take advantage of the benefits of this work to make fun of others," Mr. Konfé recalled.The second vice-president of the special delegation of Titao, Oumarou Dialla, expressed his pride."We are proud of this activity which allowed to remind the brigadiers of the essential rules of the implementation of the project. The training allowed to establish a code of good conduct and insisted on gender-based violence, sexual ex ploitation and abuse, sexual harassment", underlined Mr. Dialla.The two-day workshop was a framework for raising awareness among the brigadiers so that they can carry out their activities.For the workshop facilitator, Sayouba Sawadogo, the PCRSS allowed to recruit 250 men and women for the implementation of HIMO works in the city of Titao."It was therefore necessary to train them and make them familiar with the principles of the project", he maintained.The implementation of the PCRSS recommends a number of principles including the formal prohibition of gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse, sexual harassment among others.It also recommends the establishment of a complaints management mechanism that will allow beneficiaries to report their feelings in the implementation of activities.In the Northern region, the AMR association is the facilitating partner.Source: Burkina Information Agency
