L©raba: The provincial directorate in charge of Water and Forests of L©raba launched reforestation activities on Friday, July 4, 2025, in Bougoula, a department of the rural commune of Kankalaba. This initiative saw the planting of 400 medicinal plants aimed at benefiting the populations of the province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this reforestation effort is part of the presidential initiative "One province, one grove," announced by President Ibrahim Traor© in December 2024. The High Commissioner of L©raba, Yacouba Sawadogo, and the provincial directorate initiated the establishment of the grove on five hectares of land. The grove is expected to house 2,000 medicinal plants, benefitting the local population.

On this occasion, which marked the patriotic commitment of L©raba's residents, 400 plants of at least 20 medicinal species were planted by people from various parts of the province. The selection of these species was done meticulously, with collaboration from traditional practitioners and local populations.

"The objective of this action is to guarantee the biological diversity and medicinal relevance of this grove by promoting endemic plants and those scientifically or traditionally recognized for their curative and preventive properties," stated Arouna Sandwidi, the provincial director of Water and Forests of L©raba.

As a mid-term assessment of the 2025 reforestation campaign, Sandwidi noted that over 11,700 plants were replanted throughout L©raba in one hour on June 21, National Tree Day. "Our overall ambition in this reforestation campaign this year is to plant 60,000 seedlings throughout the province of L©raba," he said.

The provincial director emphasized the major challenges to be addressed, including solid and durable fencing, installing a borehole, and planting the remaining 1,600 plants for this grove.

The High Commissioner, Yacouba Sawadogo, commended the patriotic commitment demonstrated by the population through their participation in the reforestation efforts. The chief of the village of Bougoula, Drissa Traor©, was the sponsor of this organization.
