Mandatory Helmet Enforcement Leads to Seizure of 286 Vehicles in Koudougou

Koudougou:Security forces have seized 286 two- and three-wheeled vehicles during an operation aimed at enforcing mandatory helmet use.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the operation took place on Friday, October 2, and was conducted jointly by the Regional Traffic and Road Safety Service (SRCSR) of Nando and the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) of Koudougou. The effort is part of a broader initiative to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with helmet regulations.

Police Captain Henri Yamyaogo, head of the Nando Regional Traffic and Road Safety Service, stated that the operation is a follow-up to several awareness sessions organized for road users on the importance of wearing helmets. He emphasized the goal of enforcing the mandatory use of helmets to reduce the risks associated with road traffic accidents.

To retrieve seized vehicles, offenders are required to obtain an approved helmet, present it to inspecting officers, and pay a fine of 3,000 FCFA. Captain Yamyaogo called on the public to adhere strictly to road regulations and consistently wear helmets to preserve lives. He also noted that enforcement checks will continue.

This operation is a part of ongoing efforts to prevent and combat road insecurity in Koudougou, where accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles remain a significant concern for authorities.
