Reo Police Enforce Mandatory Helmet Use for Motorcyclists

Reo:The municipal police in Reo have initiated a control operation to ensure motorcyclists adhere to the mandatory helmet-wearing regulation. This operation has led to the immobilization of vehicles belonging to those who violate the rule.

According to Burkina Information Agency, several motorcycles have been impounded in front of the Reo town hall, demonstrating the municipal authorities' commitment to enhancing road safety. Regulations stipulate that any motorcyclist caught riding without a helmet will have their vehicle impounded.

For the motorcycle to be returned, the owner must purchase a protective helmet and pay a fee of 3,000 FCFA. Saïdou Zongo, the commander of the municipal police in Reo, stated that this measure seeks to curb the defiant behavior of some road users. He emphasized that "the distrust of authority must finally end," and without a helmet, passage is denied.

Municipal authorities view helmet use as a crucial factor in preventing traffic accidents and mitigating their severe consequences. They hope that wearing a helmet will become a routine habit for drivers of two and three-wheeled vehicles, extending beyond the mere fear of enforcement checks.

This initiative underscores the message that adhering to the highway code is a collective responsibility, essential for the safety of all road users.
