Manga Municipality Equips Ten Schools with Garden Materials to Boost Food Self-Sufficiency

Manga:Ten schools in the Manga municipality have been equipped with materials to develop their school gardens, enhancing food self-sufficiency for their canteens. The special delegation of the municipality handed over fencing materials on Wednesday, fulfilling a promise made to support these schools.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the president of the special delegation of Manga, Bérenger Bihoun, stated that the materials were provided through the municipal budget. Each school received 4 rolls of wire mesh, 43 fixed posts, 6 corner and gate posts, 1 roll of fixing wire, and 20 fasteners.

This initiative is seen as a first step toward developing school gardens for producing and harvesting local crops. Bihoun urged school administrators to utilize the equipment effectively to ensure a steady supply of local produce to school canteens.

The initiative originated from a complaint by the director of the B municipal school during a visit by the minister in charge of Basic Education in 2025. The headmistress highlighted the challenges faced in securing the garden due to a lack of fencing, which left crops vulnerable to stray animals.

Geneviève Kambiré, the headmistress of municipal school B, expressed her satisfaction with the provision of the materials, acknowledging that it addresses a critical need for her school. She noted that the equipment would help in better organizing the garden, thus improving production for the benefit of students and staff.
