Ouagadougou: The Public Prosecutor of Faso at the Ouaga I High Court, Blaise Bazi©, announced the imprisonment of the CEO of FASO CHEM, following the fire on May 9, 2025, in Kossodo, involving an illegal warehouse of dangerous chemicals.
According to Burkina Information Agency, investigations conducted by the environmental police revealed that FASO CHEM SARL, a company specializing in the importation of chemical substances, was illegally storing nitric and sulfuric acid in a residential area warehouse in Kossodo. This was done without obtaining proper authorization or conducting a prior environmental study.
Further investigations uncovered that the company had misled authorities by obtaining import permits with a dossier based on a compliant premises located in Tanghin, while the hazardous chemicals were stored elsewhere under dangerous conditions.
Following these revelations, the Chairman and CEO of FASO CHEM was placed in custody on May 19, 2025. However, the company's Managing Director, who is a foreign national, left the country before the investigations could be completed.
The court has now initiated proceedings against the company for illegal storage of dangerous chemicals and willful endangerment of life. The case is scheduled to be heard at a hearing on May 28.
In light of these events, Faso prosecutor Blaise Bazi© has called for citizen vigilance and encourages the public to report any suspicious storage or processing of dangerous chemicals.
