Gourma: The Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, met this Friday, November 28, 2025, in Fada N'Gourma, with health workers from the Goulmou region. The agents outlined several difficulties related to the supply of medicines to districts, the constraints encountered in implementing free care and products, as well as the management of their administrative careers, including assignments.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Minister of Health, Dr. Robert Lucien Jean-Claude Kargougou, emphasized that the meeting was aimed at gathering the concerns of field actors who continue to provide health services in areas with significant security challenges. Dr. Kargougou, accompanied by his close collaborators, provided straightforward answers to the issues raised.
He stated that despite the challenges, progress is being made in the availability of medicines and efforts are continuing to supply even the most remote villages. Regarding the mobility of agents in at-risk areas, the minister acknowledged that this is a major challenge for the State. Dr. Kargougou assured that measures will be strengthened to guarantee safer transport for healthcare personnel in the performance of their duties.
On the issue of careers, he highlighted improvements, while acknowledging the existence of unprocessed cases and unpaid childcare allowances. The top official in charge of Health gave assurances that everything will be done to reduce these difficulties. He also called on regional health officials, CHR general managers, and district chief medical officers to "fully play their part", reminding them that career management is an integral part of their missions.
Dr. Kargougou stressed the importance of rigorous organization of the guards, warning that if someone does not have a guard, they should not put their name on the guard list. He indicated that the State intends to further clean up the management of resources.
Speaking about the technical facilities, Dr. Kargougou acknowledged that the largest hospital in the region does not yet have all the required specialists. However, he indicated that the situation has improved compared to previous years and announced the upcoming arrival of new specialist doctors to strengthen the region's health capacity. The minister also noted that the government is working to provide the region with a new regional hospital center in line with the vision of the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traore.
Finally, Dr. Kargougou stated that, in the coming years, the State will strive to further recognize the merit of health workers operating in areas with significant security challenges, particularly through the awarding of honorary medals.
