Bassi:Zondoma: The Minister of State for Agriculture, Water, Animal Resources, and Fisheries, Commander Ismal Sombi, visited the Tougouyakoko dam construction site in the commune of Bassi. The visit took place as part of an inspection of major construction projects in the Yaadga region.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Sombi's visit aimed to observe the progress of the dam, which boasts a water retention capacity of over 15 million cubic meters and a total length of 1.024 kilometers. The dam includes 874.61 meters of dike and a 150-meter foundation-type spillway, with the execution rate currently at 83.60%.
The minister praised the National Office of Dams and Hydro-Agricultural Developments (ONBAH) for reducing the execution rate by 30% over five months. Work on the dam began on April 18, 2023, with a planned 10-month duration. At the time of suspension, the physical execution rate was 132%, with 53.60% of the time elapsed.
ONBAH resumed activities on April 1, 2026, achieving a 30% progress despite challenges from the rainy season. Minister Sombi encouraged local involvement in the project, highlighting its significance for agricultural production and providing drinking water to several localities in Bassi and the Yaadga region.
After the visit, the minister and his delegation continued their mission towards Passor, having arrived from Yatenga.
