Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouedraogo visited the Transition School complex in the Bonheur-ville neighborhood of Ouagadougou's 7th arrondissement. Accompanied by the Minister of National Education Jacques Sostheme Dingara, the Head of Government assessed the ongoing construction and observed the start of classes at the facility.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the site, previously entangled in a land dispute, was designated as urgent public utility land on May 8, 2024. The Government chose this location for a pilot school complex due to the scarcity of public schools in the area, aligning with the Head of State's vision for educational infrastructure. The modern complex now occupies a 35,384 m² plot, with the first building under construction costing 1,044,800,000 FCFA. This structure is designed to accommodate 1,000 students across its four floors, offering 16 classrooms and 10 toilet blocks per floor, including facilities for those with reduced mobility. In response to urgent educational needs, 330 first-grade students have already begun classes on the ground floor for the 2025-2026 school year.
In accordance with President Ibrahim Traore's vision, the complex features 100 locally manufactured folding desks and benches. The Prime Minister praised the rapid progress and quality of the work, urging prompt completion to make all classrooms operational for the next school year. The project reflects a commitment to modern educational infrastructure and improved conditions for teachers and students. Future plans include additional buildings for administration, a library, and a medical clinic, with facilities for post-primary and secondary education.
The Prime Minister emphasized the Transition School Complex as a pilot project to be replicated in other areas, stating: 'What is being done here will serve as a reference. This model will now be replicated, embodying the vision of the Head of State.' The nearing completion of this project underscores the Government's ambition to modernize the educational system, ensuring dignified and safe learning conditions for all children in Burkina Faso.
