Bam: The High Commissioner of Bam Province, Karim Ouedraogo, presided over the planting of more than 1,200 plants of 45 species in Kongoussi on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in the provincial grove located on the shores of Lake Bam. The initiative aims to preserve this natural resource and strengthen the population's healthcare resources.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Bam Provincial Director of Water and Forests, Commander Mahamadou Zoungrana, stated that 1,256 plants were planted, all medicinal species such as the Sebastien pimtamdra, the caicedra, the tamarind tree, the macroscopic acacia, and the milotika acacia. The lot also includes cola trees, avocado trees, and many other species.
The president of the Kongoussi special delegation, Abel Dayamba, specified that the grove covers an area of 2 hectares and runs along the banks of the lake. He reassured that the municipality, with the support of its partners, will proceed with the fencing of the site to better protect the plants.
The High Commissioner of Bam, Karim Ouedraogo, for his part, welcomed the mobilization of the active forces for this first phase, while calling on the populations to maintain the trees so that they contribute effectively to the health and well-being of the populations.
As a reminder, the government launched the "one province, one grove" initiative on National Tree Day 2025.
