Ouagadougou: A total of 7,560 children aged 3 to 59 months and 1,370 children aged 3 to 11 months will benefit from the seasonal malaria chemoprevention (CPS+) campaign coupled with free screening for acute malnutrition in Bittou, AIB observed on Thursday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the head nurse of the Bittou Urban Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS), Bougahiri Ha Man, stated that this campaign aims to administer preventive medication to children aged 3 to 59 months to protect them against malaria during the rainy season, a period of high transmission of the disease.

He explained that this intervention is not limited to the administration of medication. Several complementary activities will also be carried out in the field, including the identification and destruction of mosquito breeding sites, screening for acute malnutrition, searching for children aged 5 to 23 months who have not yet been fully vaccinated, and providing advice on hygiene in living spaces and sleeping under insecticide-treated bed nets.

Mr. Bougahiri invited the population to take ownership of this public health campaign by giving a warm welcome to the community distributors who will be making door-to-door visits and will also be intervening in public places to administer treatments to the children concerned during the days of the operation.

The head nurse expressed confidence in the community’s support for this initiative. He voiced his hope of achieving 100% coverage of the targeted children, in order to strengthen malaria prevention and contribute to reducing malnutrition among young children in the Bittou commune.
