Ouagadougou: The Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, announced that the Ministry of Security has successfully implemented 62.81% of its goals outlined in the 2026 objectives contract as of June 30, 2026. This achievement comes after a mid-term evaluation, focusing on six main objectives, each broken down into 17 priority actions.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Minister Sana revealed that the performance contract for the Ministry is centered on six significant axes. These are designed to enhance the protection of the population, combat security threats, and improve the administration’s functioning. The first objective emphasizes ensuring the safety of individuals and property, alongside maintaining the national territory’s integrity. Divisional Police Commissioner Mahamadou Sana discussed efforts to reduce crime and improve security, including the gradual reclaiming of territory.
The second objective targets the sustainable development of the wildlife and forestry sector, aiming to align these resources with economic growth. Actions in the Kua and Nazinga forests and planned reforms for the Bangr-W©ogo classified forest were highlighted by the minister. Strengthening the fight against cybercrime and counter-terrorism investigations forms the third objective, with commendable results achieved by the Central Brigade for Combating Cybercrime (BCLCC).
Improving security services in specific internal security areas is the focus of the fourth objective. The ministry is deploying the Mobile Control Brigade (BMC) in major cities and plans to extend it to other services, such as the water and forestry service and the gendarmerie. The fifth objective concentrates on enhancing the ministry’s institutional and organizational capacities, while the sixth is dedicated to controlling and combating corruption. Mahamadou Sana noted that sanctions have been imposed on certain offending agents to uphold the integrity of the institution committed to Burkina Faso’s security.
The minister praised the current execution level as satisfactory but urged continued efforts to achieve optimal performance by December 2026. In addressing road safety, he announced the operationalization of video ticketing starting August 1, 2026, aiming to reduce accidents rather than penalize road users. In the first half of 2026, Burkina Faso reported over 11,000 accidents, with nearly 9,000 injuries and approximately 650 fatalities on the roads.
