Mouhoun New Year Message: Dedougou Canton Chief Advocates for Social Cohesion and Against Stigmatization

Mouhoun: On the occasion of the new year 2026, the canton chief of Dedougou, Albert Lombo Dayo, addressed a message of good wishes to the people, marked by an urgent call for social cohesion, tolerance, and the rejection of all forms of stigmatization, which he described as a major source of disagreements.

According to Burkina Information Agency, in his address, the canton chief of Dedougou, Albert Lombo Dayo, expressed wishes for health, prosperity, success, and above all peace for the whole of Burkina Faso. Noting the context of insecurity that the country has been experiencing for several years, he implored God and the spirits of the ancestors so that this situation would end as soon as possible.

The canton chief invited all the people of the Bankui region, as well as all Burkinabe people both inside and in the diaspora, to work towards strengthening social cohesion. To that end, Albert Lombo Dayo urged his compatriots to forgive, accept each other, and be tolerant, while calling on them to avoid stigmatization, which is often the cause of divisions within communities.

'Let us forgive each other, let us accept each other as we are. I wish that there will be much tolerance in everything we do today. Let us avoid stigmatization in Burkina Faso which is very often the source of disagreements,' he said. According to him, mutual respect, acceptance of differences, and solidarity between communities are essential levers to enable Burkina Faso to move forward.

The customary authority has, moreover, entrusted the protection of the entire nation to God and the ancestors. Addressing the security situation, the canton chief recalled that the war being waged by Burkina Faso was imposed upon it and called for a collective struggle for national sovereignty.

As a traditional leader, he offered prayers for the protection of the highest authorities in the country, particularly the President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traore, so that he may be enlightened in his vision, as well as for all members of the government. At the local level, he implored divine protection for the governor of the Bankui region and all administrative authorities.

The canton chief of Dedougou also expressed his wish for peaceful coexistence between the different communities and religious denominations, particularly in Dedougou, calling for greater social cohesion and living together. He paid a strong tribute to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP) who fell with weapons in hand for national sovereignty, praying for the repose of their souls.

He also expressed his compassion for the bereaved families, especially widows and orphans, and invited all citizens to show them solidarity and support. Finally, during this festive period, the traditional authority called on citizens to be cautious on the roads and particularly appealed to students to respect traffic rules, their supervisors, and civic values, reminding them that peace is both an individual and collective commitment.

He concluded his message with a prayer for the protection of Burkina Faso. "I pray to God and the spirits of our ancestors to protect us and to protect Burkina Faso," he concluded.
