Bobo-dioulasso: Municipal police have shut down a morgue that was illegally opened inside a Franco-Arab school in sector 17 of Bobo-Dioulasso, as reported by the state daily Sidwaya in its edition of Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
According to Burkina Information Agency, initial findings by municipal services revealed that the morgue was operating within the school, which is situated in the heart of the city. Deficiencies in hygiene, health and safety, and urban planning compliance were noted.
The newspaper reports that the morgue posed significant health risks to local residents. Its managers had neither obtained prior authorization nor undergone a technical inspection by the relevant authorities, as mandated by municipal regulations.
A police officer informed Sidwaya that establishing a morgue is subject to strict rules concerning health and urban planning. Non-compliance with these rules constitutes a serious offense.
Investigations are ongoing to determine responsibility and identify any potential complicity in the illegal operation of the morgue. The municipal police assured that sanctions could be imposed in accordance with applicable laws.
Authorities have called on the population to remain vigilant and reiterated their commitment to strengthening controls to prevent similar situations, aiming to protect public health and uphold urban planning rules.
