Nahouri/Harvest Festival: The customary people of Tiakané rehabilitate a disappearing practice

The customary chief of the village of Tiakané, in the commune of Pô, province of Nahouri and all of his notables organized on March 30, 2024, the first edition of the harvest festival called 'Tiakana-faa -tchiandia '. This customary ceremony was attended by the administrative authorities of the commune, sons, daughters and friends of Tiakané.The populations of the village of Tiakané, a locality located 6 km west of the town of Pô were jubilant on March 30, 2024 and for good reason, the customary authorities organized the first edition of the harvest festival called 'Tiakana-faa-tchiandia. 'An opportunity for them to honor ancestors, ask for blessings, organize popular celebrations and make donations to the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).According to the customary chief of Tiakané, 'Tiakané Pê', this harvest festival once organized by their grandparents has been neglected, although it was a framework for strengthening social cohesion between son s and daughters of the locality of a on one side and on the other hand between the population of Tiakané and their friends.'We have rehabilitated this festival, in order to allow our children and grandparents to know our traditional values,' indicated the customary authority of Tiakané.He praised the government for its decision to establish May 15 as a day of traditions. 'This will allow everyone to return to their sources,' concluded the chief of Tiakané.This ceremony was attended by a strong delegation of traditional chiefs from Ghana led by 'Paga -Bourou-Pê), customary chief of Paga Bourou, a locality located on the border of Burkina and Ghana.The latter indicated that their trip to Tiakané is the result of good cohabitation and fraternity between the populations living on either side of the border of Burkina and Ghana.He affirmed that culture and traditions have no borders before inviting the Burkinabè to unite behind the fighting forces committed to the reconquest of the national territory.Th e administrative authorities of the commune of Pô led by the president of the special delegation, Ilassa Dianda, participated in this customary celebration of the chief of Tiakané.They went to wish the chief of Tiakané a happy harvest festival and express their availability to support customary authorities in development and cohesion actions.Before the start of the ceremony, the notables of Tiakané implored the spirits of the ancestors to be the protectors of the fighters engaged in the reconquest of the national territory.Also, during the said ceremony, the populations of Tiakané handed over 20 bags of 100 kg of corn including 10 bags for the VDP and 10 bags for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).The harvest festival also saw the presence of a strong delegation from the association of traditional chiefs of Pô, the chief of Gomboussougou and the project manager of the President of the Transition, Thiery Nikiema.Source: Burkina Information Agency
