Johannesburg: The National Police intensify awareness campaign on helmet use

The National Police organized a large-scale awareness campaign on Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Sapouy, targeting road users on the importance of wearing a motorcycle helmet. Led by police lieutenant Ibrahim Finteri, ONASER focal point, the operation also involved turning back motorcyclists riding without helmets.

According to Burkina Information Agency, deployed at several key locations in the town of Sapouy, particularly along National Route 6 (RN6), officers from the National Police raised awareness among motorcyclists about the risks of not wearing helmets. This operation follows up on recent awareness campaigns conducted in Ouagadougou to promote adherence to road safety regulations.

The police lieutenant who led the operation stated that the primary objective is to raise awareness among motorcyclists about the importance of protecting themselves. "We are on the ground to educate motorcyclists about respecting safety rules, particularly wearing a helmet. It's about reminding them that a helmet is an essential means of protection against serious injuries in the event of an accident," he said.

During the operation, motorcyclists without helmets were made aware of the rules and asked to comply with them. For the police, this approach aims to gradually promote the adoption of responsible behavior and to contribute to reducing the consequences of traffic accidents.

The initiative appears to have been well received by several users encountered at the various checkpoints. Some praised the security forces' approach, believing that awareness campaigns remain necessary to encourage more motorcyclists to consistently wear helmets. Through this operation, the National Police intends to continue its community outreach and strengthen road safety in the city of Sapouy.
