Fada N'Gourma:The 3rd edition of the National Vector Control Days commenced on Saturday in Fada N'Gourma, emphasizing the collective fight against vector-borne diseases. The event saw participation from administrative, health, and municipal authorities, technical services, and the local population in sanitation activities.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the High Commissioner of Gourma Province, Comrade Silas Nacanabo, was actively involved in the fieldwork alongside various stakeholders. The participants focused on clearing drainage ditches, weeding unsanitary areas, cleaning designated sites, and eradicating mosquito breeding grounds across multiple sectors of the city.
These efforts are part of a presidential multi-sectoral initiative aimed at controlling vectors to reduce the spread of diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and yellow fever. The activities in Fada N'Gourma specifically targeted drainage ditches in sector 7, extending from the Bayama station to the dam, and included areas around the Teresa pharmacy, SIM church, the small market, and behind the CAMEG building.
Health officials highlighted the importance of continuous community engagement in eliminating potential larval breeding sites. They encouraged households to maintain cleanliness, remove stagnant water containers, use insecticide-treated mosquito nets, provide children with seasonal malaria chemoprevention, and secure home openings with wire mesh.
The strong mobilization for this 3rd edition signifies a shared commitment among authorities and citizens to establish vector control as a collective and sustainable action. This initiative supports efforts to enhance the health environment and aligns with the national goal of eradicating malaria by 2030.
