Niger: ECOWAS will finalize deployment plans for its Standby Force on Thursday and Friday

ECOWAS Chiefs of Staff will meet Thursday and Friday in Accra, Ghana, to finalize plans for the deployment of the Standby Force in Niger, in order to restore " the normal constitutional order,” according to a statement from the institution.

Following the directive of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS during its Extraordinary Summit on the political situation in the Republic of Niger held on August 10, 2023 in Abuja, Nigeria, the Committee of Chiefs of Staff of the ECOWAS CCDC) has begun the activation of the ECOWAS Standby Force for the restoration of constitutional order in the Republic of Niger.

To this end, the ECOWAS Chiefs of Staff Committee will hold an extraordinary meeting in Accra, Ghana, from 17-18 August 2023, to finalize plans for the deployment of the Standby Force.''
