Niger Implements Ban on Export of Super Gasoline and Diesel

Doha:Niger has announced a ban on the export of super gasoline and diesel to prioritize the domestic supply. This decision was formalized through a decree signed by the Nigerien Minister of Trade and Industry, Abdoulaye Seydou, on October 12, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the decree highlights that the national production of diesel and super petrol is primarily aimed at ensuring the supply for the national market. The decree allows for the possibility of export only if there is a surplus, which would require a special authorization from the Minister in charge of Trade.

The decree also empowers agents from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Customs agents, and the Defense and Security Forces to enforce compliance with this new regulation. The Secretary Generals of various ministries, including Trade and Industry, Petroleum, Economy and Finance, Interior and Public Security, and National Defence, are tasked with executing the decree within their respective domains, and it will be published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Niger.

This measure comes amid reported disruptions in the supply of hydrocarbons affecting service stations in the capital city, necessitating the prioritization of local distribution.
