ONI-Nando Relocates Services to Thyou for Biometric ID Enrollment

Thyou:The Office national d’identification (ONI), through its regional branch in Nando, relocated its services to the commune of Thyou on October 31, 2026. This move was aimed at facilitating the enrollment of residents for the Alliance des États du Sahel's Biometric Identity Card (CIB-AES).

According to Agence d'Information du Burkina, the initiative, conducted in collaboration with the local municipality, witnessed significant public participation. Launched earlier this year, the operation underscores the commitment of authorities to ensure eligible citizens can access this identification document under optimal conditions.

The CIB-AES represents a major innovation, being available to children from the age of 5 and becoming mandatory from age 13, in contrast to the traditional National Identity Card, which is required at age 15. Applicants are required to present a birth certificate extract and pay a fee of 3,500 FCFA. Those born abroad must also provide a nationality certificate.

Lieutenant of Police Oumarou Sawadogo, the head of the ONI regional branch in Nando, expressed gratitude to local authorities and community leaders for their warm reception. He emphasized that the initiative aims to bring services directly to citizens, ensuring their right to identity and freedom of movement is upheld.

The operation, which ran from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., attracted a large turnout, including administrative officials, students, and families, resulting in 211 individuals being enrolled. Among them was His Majesty Naaba Tigré, the canton chief of Thyou, who praised the initiative as beneficial for residents, enhancing mobility within the AES region and strengthening community ties.
