Ouagadougou: The Basic Education District (CEB) of Zabre 1, through the Organization of School Sport, Culture and Leisure (OSCEP), concluded its 2025-2026 sports and cultural activities with a ceremony marked by thrilling handball and football finals.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, themed "The promotion of sport and culture in primary school: a catalyst for the formation of a responsible and patriotic citizen," gathered students, supervisors, administrative and customary authorities, and education partners. The activities aimed to promote social cohesion, patriotism, and communal living values.
Initiated on December 13, 2025, at Zourma school, the 2026 edition featured participation from 48 schools competing in various sports like football, handball, and athletics. On the cultural front, students demonstrated their talents through traditional and modern dance, theater, recitals, drawing, and writing.
Phylibert Pouya, Head of the Basic Education District (CCEB) of Zabre 1, expressed satisfaction with the smooth execution of the activities. He emphasized that the theme underscored the political will of the nation's highest authorities in education, highlighting the importance of sport and culture in shaping the learners' personalities, who are regarded as future nation builders.
The ceremony, held under the patronage of statistician-economist engineer Dr. Rodrigue Mare, included commendations for education stakeholders in Zabre commune, especially Zabre 1 CEB, for their dedication to children's education across knowledge, skills, and character. Dr. Mare also lauded municipal authorities for prioritizing education in Zabre.
Support for the event came from various personalities, including the President of the special delegation of Zabre, represented by the first vice-president Jacques Gouba, bank executive Leontine Zagre, and Jacques T. Gouba, director of the promotion of national expertise.
The ceremony's highlight was the football final between Guirmogo and Soussoula schools at Zabre Evangelical School grounds. Guirmogo emerged victorious with a 1-0 score, claiming the championship trophy for the 2026 edition.
Prizes were distributed to winners of the sporting and cultural competitions, alongside certificates of recognition for individuals who contributed to the event's success.
