Ouagadougou: The meeting room of the Sabou town hall hosted, on Saturday, January 17, an information and exchange meeting intended for people impacted by the Ouagadougou - Bobo-Dioulasso highway project, AIB observed. Under the leadership of the President of the Special Delegation (PDS), Abdoul Aziz Koara, this session brought together the presidential initiative "Faso Mªbo", SONATUR, as well as customary, religious authorities and local populations.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Sabou PDS praised the strong turnout, seeing it as a sign of the population's support for local development. He noted that this strategic project, launched less than six months ago by presidential decree, is already entering its active phase. "The town hall has taken all the necessary steps to guarantee the success of this major project," stated Abdoul Aziz Koara.
At the heart of the discussions, the issue of recovering trees felled during the earthworks raised numerous questions. Lieutenant Sabane Ouedraogo, head of the departmental water and forestry service, provided an update: while most residents have already collected the tree trunks, he emphasized the legal requirements. "Transporting timber remains subject to prior authorization. Any movement of timber without the necessary administrative documentation exposes offenders to the penalties stipulated by law," he reminded them.
The issue of compensation was addressed by the head of the SONATUR delegation, Tiraogo Nikiema. He sought to reassure them, promising an inclusive compensation process for affected landowners and farmers. However, he emphasized that this process is in line with the rigor of the current "Popular Progressive Revolution." While support is guaranteed, discipline remains essential: any act aimed at hindering the smooth progress of the work will be dealt with firmly.
This meeting helped to clarify any uncertainties regarding the support measures. It marks a key step in the social management of the project, aiming to reconcile the imperatives of infrastructural development with respect for the rights of the affected populations.
