Ouagadougou: Parents of students in Ourouko have partnered with the school council to maintain the school grounds in the commune of Djibasso. The collaborative effort involved weeding a one and a half hectare school field, which took place on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the parents worked alongside the school council to clear weeds from the millet and bean plants. Following the weeding, fertilizers were applied to promote crop growth. This initiative came after a rare and significant rainfall occurred from Friday night to Saturday morning, marking one of the few heavy rains since the start of the winter season in Djibasso.

In addition to the fieldwork, concerns were raised by the parents regarding the school's infrastructure, particularly the classrooms made of banco (mud brick). Loub Dembl, chairman of the Ourouko school council, expressed the community's hope for new classrooms constructed from permanent materials, as the current mud-brick structures are a source of worry.

School officials mentioned that the development of the school grounds is part of a larger strategy to support the school canteen with locally sourced food, aiming to utilize produce from local farms. Education stakeholders in Ourouko plan to persist in their efforts to maintain and improve the school environment, thereby enhancing the canteen's supply and improving students' learning conditions.
