Ouagadougou: The patriotic hour to re-green Burkina Faso strongly mobilizes the population
According to Burkina Information Agency, the commune of Niaogho celebrated the presidential initiative called “The Patriotic Hour to Green Up Faso” through a vast tree-planting operation marked by strong mobilization of the population, local authorities, and technical services. The activity was launched at the Niaogho town hall by the prefect, president of the Special Delegation (PDS) of the municipality, Karim Sana, in the presence of the vital forces of the locality. This initiative is part of the national effort to restore vegetation cover and combat the effects of climate change.
Several plants were planted on different sites in the municipality to contribute to the preservation of the environment and the improvement of the living conditions of the population. In his address, the PDS commended the strong mobilization of the population, technical services, and local stakeholders who responded to the authorities’ call. He reiterated that reforestation is a crucial tool for environmental protection, safeguarding natural resources, and promoting sustainable development.
Karim Sana stated that planting trees helps combat desertification, reduce soil erosion, promote rainwater infiltration, and improve the fertility of agricultural land. He also highlighted the role of trees in mitigating the effects of climate change through carbon dioxide absorption and temperature regulation. The head of the municipality emphasized the need for rigorous monitoring of the planted seedlings to ensure their survival, indicating that measures have been taken for their care and protection. He expressed satisfaction with the positive development of several trees planted during previous campaigns, thanks to the combined efforts of the various stakeholders.
To support the participants, agents from the Water and Forestry service provided practical advice on planting techniques, maintenance, and protection measures for young plants. This reforestation campaign comes at a favorable time, marked by the gradual onset of the rainy season. The expected rainfall should facilitate root development and plant growth, thus increasing their chances of survival.
The operation took place in a friendly and civic atmosphere for an hour, reflecting the commitment of the people of Niaogho to environmental protection and building a greener future for future generations.
