PDG FC Triumphs Over Banizoumbou FC to Clinch Resilience Tournament Victory

Ouagadougou: PDG FC wins the "Resilience Tournament" by beating Banizoumbou FC with a score of 1-0. The PDG FC football team of Markoye won the final of the football tournament called the 'Resilience Tournament' on Friday, securing a 1-0 victory over Banizoumbou FC. This competition was organized by the Association for the Promotion of Peace and Local Development (APPDL).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the "Resilience" tournament aimed to strengthen ties among host populations, internally displaced persons, civilians, and security forces through exchanges promoting tolerance, solidarity, and peace. The tournament was conducted under the theme, "When the field brings people together, resilience and peace are strengthened."

The final match saw Banizoumbou FC face off against PDG FC amidst significant public support. After a competitive match, PDG FC emerged victorious with a score of 1-0, claiming the competition trophy. As a reward for their first-place finish, PDG FC received a trophy, a set of jerseys, a ball, and 20,000 FCFA. Banizoumbou FC, finishing in second place, was awarded a set of jerseys, a ball, and 15,000 FCFA.

The event was attended by administrative authorities, the Defense and Security Forces (FDS), the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), and a large crowd who cheered on the teams. Other participating teams were also recognized with rewards in kind and cash, acknowledging their commitment and sportsmanship.

The tournament commenced on April 1, 2026, under the leadership of the village chief of Markoye, with sponsorship from Issa Amara Bathily and Oudou Maiga. The APPDL of Markoye highlighted the role of sport as a powerful tool for community building and peace consolidation in a region where social cohesion remains a significant challenge.
