Poni: The president of the special delegation (PDS) of the commune of Loropni, Faon-Nignin¨ Jean Damasc¨ne Som, organized a sanitation day on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in collaboration with the Departmental Coordination of women's associations of Loropni, as part of the commemoration of the 169th International Women's Day. This activity mobilized the vital forces of the community, including women's associations, youth groups, heads of decentralized services, and community leaders.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event, which was centered on civic engagement and solidarity, facilitated the cleaning and sanitizing of several public services in Loropni, including the prefecture, the Social Action Service (SAS), the Basic Education District (CEB), and the Health and Social Promotion Center (CSPS). At the conclusion of the initiative, Faon-Nignin¨ Jean Damasc¨ne Som expressed gratitude to all participants, particularly acknowledging the strong participation of men.
Mr. Som encouraged the community to maintain this civic momentum and urged women to become more involved in development initiatives. Meanwhile, Biba Bamba, president of the Loropni Departmental Coordination of Women's Associations, expressed her relative dissatisfaction with the low participation of women, believing their involvement in such activities is crucial. Ms. Bamba committed to raising awareness to encourage greater female participation in community actions and nation-building efforts.
The officials emphasized that International Women's Day should be viewed as an opportunity to enhance the protection of women and girls' rights and their commitment to national development, rather than merely a festive occasion. The day also featured the introduction of a new association, the Association of Western Nationals living in Loropni (ARO/L), aimed at fostering social cohesion among locals.
Baferba Soma, president of ARO/L, stated that the association seeks to promote unity and remains open to all residents of the Western and Dj´r´ regions wishing to join.
