Regional Director Advocates Responsible Social Media Use for Peace Promotion


Namentenga: The Regional Director of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism (DRCCAT) for Kouls©, Safiata Oubda, emphasized the importance of responsible social media use to promote peace and development during a training session for young people. The event, held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, was presided over by Karim Isma«l Thiombiano, Secretary General of the Namentenga Province.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the session aimed to instill moral values in social media users and equip them with tools to prevent the dissemination of false information that could demoralize those engaged in field operations. The initiative was praised by Karim Isma«l Thiombiano, representing the High Commissioner, who acknowledged the efforts of DRCCAT and its partner Enabel in combating hate speech online.



The training featured three presentations by Safiata Oubda, Souba Diao, and Vincent Ou©draogo, which provided the 40 young participants with insights into verification mechanisms and the identification of different types of false information, commonly referred to as fake news.



During the session, participants raised concerns about issues such as the decriminalization of press offenses and the inclusion of certain social media platforms in Burkina Faso. These concerns were addressed with satisfactory responses, according to the organizers.



Participants expressed their satisfaction with the training and hoped that similar initiatives would be extended to more young people to further enhance the promotion of peace throughout Burkina Faso.
